Autism/ADHD Assessment FAQ

  • Who can diagnose autism and ADHD?

In Ohio, Autism and ADHD can be formally diagnosed by psychologists, neurologists, nurse practitioners, therapists/counselors, and medical doctors, as long as it is within their scope of practice. Scope of practice means having supervised experience, specialized training, and advanced training in statistical analysis. Practitioners making any diagnosis must have training and experience to do so. Our assessors are masters and doctorate-level independently licensed practitioners who exceed the licensing board’s standards of scope of practice to perform our work. We have multiple autism and assessment certifications, training in autism and ADHD evaluation, specific advanced training in our testing measures, supervised/trained experience, and consistent investment in continuing education trainings to best serve you.

  • What is the cost for an assessment?

We recognize that formal testing is a significant financial and emotional investment, and seek to honor that with a seamless, safe, and thorough experience for you. Generally, our costs range from $975-$1500 depending on which practitioner you work with and whether or not you utilize the sliding scale options offered.

To ensure we have the flexibility to be as thorough as necessary without accruing extra cost to you, we do not contract with insurance companies. We can offer documentation to you to submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement, as well as recommendations for services who can help you pursue reimbursement. Check with your insurance company to determine what your plan covers for out-of-network reimbursement, and what information they require to reimburse you.

  • What if I'm masking? Can I still get an accurate diagnosis?

Our assessors are deeply committed to a neurodiversity-affirmative approach in assessments. We expect that many of the individuals who choose to work with have a history of masking their neurodivergent traits- this is not a barrier to the assessment process in our practice. Our foundational assessment tool is an evidence-based diagnostic interview that supports accurate diagnostics even with high masking, and our assessors have lived experience themselves with masking- we understand how validating it is when someone sees beyond that protective mechanism and affirms us. During testing, you will spend several meetings with your evaluator, and they will be very thorough while also trusting you as the expert of what it’s like to be you!
